John Corbett and the Welsh connection
In 1878 Corbett heard through a friend Sir Rupert Kettle, a County Court Judge on the Midland Circuit, that a property owned by the Shropshire Corbet family was for sale at Towyn in Merioneth.
Following several visits to Wales Corbett decided he was interested and bought the Freehold Residential Domain of Yns-y-Maengwen in June, 1878 for an undisclosed figure. Anna with the two eldest children, Mary and Roger, and youngest daughter Clare moved from Droitwich to Yns-y-Maengwen. John regularly visited but in 1884 he and Anna agreed to separate and she moved away with Clare to live firstly in Cornwall and later North Devon.
